Hi, friend!

I am an Arizona photographer in the midst of chasing simplicity + sunlight.

Shall we chase it together?

Here it is - the middle of December.

The holiday party invites are in mailboxes, the garland is gathered, and the quick-n-easy festive desserts are being pinned to all of the boards.
The men are bringing out their jackets and testing the heater in the car. The kids are decorating paper plate snowmen at school and drafting their wish lists.
We women are setting aside our open-toed sandals and bringing out our boots. We are plucking out our plaid scarves, popping on our crimson lip stain, brushing some gold dust on our eyelids, and hot rolling every last lock of hair. This is all on top of ensuring the men in our family are indeed wearing their jackets while fixing the vehicle’s heater and that the littles are being safe with scissors while cutting out their snowmen. Oh, and that we are abiding by every Pinterest Christmas rule.

How many of your fingers have been burned while in a hurry to re-curl that pesky flat piece of hair?
How many linzer cookies did you end up throwing away because the middle shape is not a perfect star?
How many times have you touched up on your mulberry lipstick in the mirror while your toddler is attempting to proudly show off his finger-painted Santa to you?
How many times did you reluctantly watch A Christmas Story only because it is a tradition even though you don’t even have an hour and a half in your day to spare?
Have you ever been embarrassingly late to a family gathering because you slept in after doing all of the above the night before?

The holidays can be exhausting.
Especially when you are trying to make them perfect.

Did you know that no one is going to notice that flat piece of hair that resists a curl like you do? Tuck that sucker behind your ear and be on with your afternoon.
Did you know your neighbors are going to be so grateful you thought of them by bringing your homemade cookies that they are not even going to care what they look like?
Did you know your three-year-old doesn’t even notice you’re not wearing lipstick? But notices when you don’t pay attention to his artwork.
Did you know that A Christmas Story will still be available for you to watch next year?
Above all, did you know your family would rather have you at Christmas dinner with a top knot and pajama bottoms than having you late with perfect hair and a bad attitude?

This Christmas, unplug from the holiday makeup tutorials, read your little one his bedtime story, and be on time to your in-laws. Present over perfect.
Your sanity will thank you for it. Your family will thank you for it. Your well-rested self this holiday season will thank you for it.
