Hi, friend!

I am an Arizona photographer in the midst of chasing simplicity + sunlight.

Shall we chase it together?

A friend is a human version of a souvenir. They are reminders of a time and place in our life that we once loved, loathed, or admired. Then, we take them aboard our ship as we sail through life. Some of those souvenirs can evolve into being co-captains or part of the crew, while others are given lifeboats to find a new ship to board. Even when the lifeboat putts away off into its new journey, we never forget what its driver did for us.

Friends can be built on interests or experiences – and if you’re really lucky – a solid friendship can be built on both. I am lucky enough to have a few crewmembers and a co-captain (shout out to my boo-thang). I have had to let go of a few lifeboats but not out of discontent or anger – but because the season ended. I have realized that not everyone you go to afternoon coffee or an evening movie with is your best friend. Yes, seasonal friendships are a very real and common thing. Even if the friendship lasted for years, it was still a season. In fact, most of the people that come into your life are there for a mere season. Either for you to teach them a lesson in life or for them to teach you. It could be your best friend in high school that you don’t know anymore. It could be your partner in geography (the one you’d make fun of the professor with) who got a scholarship out of state the following semester. What about your coworker that you’d grab gelato with after every shift for a year that is now in a different line of work? Yep, seasonal.

I have friends who are single and in their 40’s, friends who have kids, friends who are in their 40’s and have kids, and then there are those friends that are in the exact same season I am – mid-20’s, newly married, no kids, and off to discover the world before it catches up to us. It’s important to have those friends that are from all walks of life and ones that have different roles in your life. I have certain friends I call when I am excited and I have certain friends I know I can call when I just need to cry.

God gives us a variety of those people in our life for a reason. Some stay aboard the ship while others sail off for new beginnings. Either way, they are your souvenir. A reminder of a time where you needed them and they needed you.
