Milk Bath Maternity - Krystal
Cleopatra once said, “you know what I’m going to soak my Egyptian goddess of a body in today? Milk!” Well, she didn’t quite say it like that, but she did lather herself in some calcium goodness back in the days of the ancient Middle East. Without getting too scientific, milk contains lactic acid which naturally + gently removes dead skin cells. This exfoliation rejuvenates the skin + healthy cells arise to evolve being sweet + supple to the touch. Even though this technique can be beneficial to everyone, it is extremely relaxing + favorable to pregnant women.
If you’ve been scrolling through Pinterest lately, you may have noticed the photography trend known as milk bath maternity shoots. They are beautifully displayed images of women in lace, carrying their unborn, relaxing in an ethereal white bath surrounded by flowers. The baths typically contain milk, or warm water mixed with either powdered milk or powdered creamer. Then, as the mother slowly dips herself in, flowers + other organic material are placed around her. This reveals a beautiful scene of a mother in a soothing, tranquil state appreciating her body + the miracle that is growing inside.
I had the opportunity to photograph Krystal with Alyvia Brielle nestled snugly inside her belly until her mid-August arrival. Krystal is already a beautifully glowing mother. The milk bath reflected incandescently off her bronzed skin + the contrast between the vintage red lace + the pale bath was impeccable.
Here are a few images of elegance + fertility captured in this skin enhancing trend.
As this serenity-filled photo shoot was coming to a close, baby Alyvia let her mother know she was happy by filling her stomach with little butterfly kicks. It was a surreal moment.
